What I Did:
What I Learnt:

Verve 2019 - A Community Arts Festival

  • Held at Bukit Batok East Community Club

  • Volunteered as both a Dance Performer & Programme Booth Tender

  • Prepared a finale dance piece with my course-mates as part of the finale dance performance for the festival concert

  • In-charge of tending to one of the programme booths for the festival: 'Shrink Plastic' with other volunteers

> Guided and interacted with members of the local community; including elderly, families with young children and youths

> Helped facilitate the shrink-art-making process for festival visitors

  • Worked well with other festival volunteers to ensure that the entire festival operates smoothly

> Provided meaningful activity experiences for many members of the community

Very Special Arts (VSA) 2019

Pangdemonium (2019)

  • Volunteered for VSA's 'Peter and The Wolf' show event

> This production involved the contributions and presence of children with disabilities

  • Helped out at the event as an usher and tender for the 'Care Station'

> Responsible for keeping a lookout for any unwanted incidents or emergencies

  • The show was able to run smoothly in the end

Willing Hearts (2017)

  • Volunteered for Pangdemonium's 'This is What Happens to Pretty Girls' Production Event

  • Volunteered as a show event usher

> Responsible for retrieving donations by distributing programme booklets to show audience members

> Helped to facilitate and direct the in-flow of audience crowds by guiding them towards their respective entrance doors to the theatre as well as the washrooms

> At the end of the show, I was also tasked to go around to encourage show audiences to fill up post production survey forms

  • The show was able to run smoothly in the end

These volunteer experiences were a great booster for me to further discover and forge a deeper passion for wanting to impact and contribute to the local community. They made me realize my strengths as a people-centric individual, who loves to meet, interact, and connect with the people around me to give back to the society.

  • Crowd Management

  • Importance of effective communication and open-mindedness (Communication Skills - Both verbal & non-verbal)

> Importance of one's body language and its impact on the experiences of another individual

  • How to adapt and stay flexible in looking out for the people around me

> The safety and security of festival/event visitors as well as other volunteers

  • Community Interaction & Engagement Skills

  • Interpersonal and Team-Building Skills

  • Empathizing with the under-served and vulnerable

  • Volunteered as a helper to contribute to their daily mass food production process

> To produce over 5000 meals on a daily basis to send them out to the needy and vulnerable in Singapore (elderly, children etc.)

  • Was allocated to help out with the production of the food sauces which would then be served together with the meal packets

  • The owner of Willing Hearts then expressed his sincere gratitude towards our help and contributions for their organizational cause

> As they always appreciate and welcome the help of compassionate volunteers
